Thoughts of The Moment!

Being an artist is like playing softball, or maybe golf. It helps to have a little natural talent, but almost anyone can do it. But, if being an artist is your calling, your job, your profession, it's a different ballgame entirely.

Ha! I just figured out how to write new thoughts, and if this seems random it is. After all, I am an artist.

The early morning breeze is stirring the windchimes, the moon has set but the stars are still out--it's going to be a good day. I think Julia Cameron is right when she says art arises out of paying close, careful attention to the moment you are in.

2009 has been such a mixed year, with tough times for almost everyone. I hope 2010 will be a more peaceful, prosperous year, with lots of blessings for friends, family, and artists everywhere.

I'm working on a large paper background piece, and trying to get the design perfect while not creasing the large paper is driving me nuts! I need a magic wand!

Each month I mail off my Transaction Priviledge License Tax--aka sales tax. It's never very much, but in my mind, it all goes to the public schools in Arizona. With our state government, I think my pittance is all that is going to education in my state.

Art Cards are now available. These fun, collectible pieces of art are hand made in a standard 2.5x3.5" format. Originals are hand -drawn and hand-colored on high quality paper, using a variety of inks, markers, and acrylics. These cards are also available in Limited Editions. The cards are for sale, but I am also interested in trading cards with other artists.

Ultimately, for me studio has come to mean a state of mind as much as place. Studio is where the job gets done. --Lu Bro

What would I like people to take away from viewing my art? I want people to love the desert depicted in my oils; and to notice the wealth of complicated things to look at and enjoy in the layered paper creations.

Wow, it took three weeks, and 11 chapters of a very challenging book on art theory and practise, but now I know the changes I want to make in the current small oil painting on the easel. Sometimes someone else's insight leads, directly or indirectly, to new solutions to painting problems. : )
