How to make art with a baby--well, how to make art when baby sitting.  Artists have regular lives, and mine includes a granddaughter now.  My advice, work really hard while the baby is sleeping!

A nice website is www.JuanAlonso.info.  Juan Alonso is an interesting Seattle area artist, check it out.

Fall is such a lovely time to be an artist in the American Southwest.  The beautiful light and colors are amazing.

Okay, I'm ready to add a cactus wren to a picture, so where are all the cactus wrens? They usually hang out in my yard, but not today.  How do birds know when I want to use them for lmodels?

The late summer heat dissolved in recent unexpected rain.  Suddenly, all types of plants are flourishing.  One of the things that shapes my art is how hard the desert works to survive, how hard it tries to restore itself after drought or manmade disaster.

I love birds.  My yard is bird friendly, with water and plants that appeal to birds, and the feeders are always out for our year-round hummingbirds.  Lots of birds show up in my art, both the oil paintings and the layered paper creations.  But, even I think the squawk of the Gila woodpecker is really obnoxious!

We had a great Catalina Artists Studio Tour.  I hosted Jill Dredge, colored pencil artist; Elizabeth Manfredi, pastels; Meg Newberg, oils; and DiWolf Jewelry.  Wonderful weather, lovely stuff from everyone, and lots of happy visitors.  It was a really fun show.

Two cool websites, wildly different from one another.  For fiber artists, weavers, and knitters, take a look at www.howspin.com.  Rated G for everyone, and for a great shop.  For an edgier experience, take a look at www.devolutionart.com, more PG13 but very, very cool.
